Quote of the Week: Hunter S. Thompson

“Pray to God, but row away from the rocks.”
Author and founding Gonzo journalist Hunter Stockton Thompson was born in Louisville, Kentucky, on this day in 1937.
“Fiction is based on reality unless you’re a fairy-tale artist, you have to get your knowledge of life from somewhere. You have to know the material you’re writing about before you alter it.”

He died at home at his fortified Colorado compound on February 20, 2005 at age 67.

Try choosing a worthwhile quote by him some time. He said and wrote so much that’s worth repeating. I wonder if that’s an epitaph he would have appreciated?

“Myths and legends die hard in America. We love them for the extra dimension they provide, the illusion of near-infinite possibility to erase the narrow confines of most men's reality. Weird heroes and mould-breaking champions exist as living proof to those who need it that the tyranny of the rat race is not yet final.”
