Presumed Lost
This makes me so sad:
This silent version of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, directed by Malcolm St. Clair and co-written by Anita Loos, was released in 1928. No copies are known to exist; it is presumed lost.
And since this was a pre-code version, it could potentially have been pretty racy.
The lost film was based on Loos’ 1925 novel of the same name and, yes, it’s the same novel that the übber famous 1953 film starring Jane Russell and Marilyn Monroe was based on, albeit by way of a stage musical.
Another holy grail for film buffs?
