The King of Dogs (and Cats)
The spcaLA has long been one of my favorite charities. It’s an absolutely incredible organization. Think about what they’re up against: a vast metropolis plus climactic challenges plus areas of deep poverty. And they do an amazing job of dealing with their challenges. Quite simply, above and beyond.
They also do a really super job of fund-raising and they have an awful lot of fun doing it. For example, spcaLA Day with the Los Angeles Kings is coming up fast on Saturday, March 8, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. There is more information about the event here, but I wanted to let you know that the pre-game auction began today on e-Bay. A lot of great stuff is on offer, including a Zamboni ride during the game. (And who wouldn’t want to ride a Zamboni?)
More information about spcaLA Day with the L.A. Kings is here (including ticket prices and information) or go directly to the pre-game auction here.

And you're right, I'd never considered the extra challenges the SPCA in LA was up against.
