e ads out of Detroit in the 1930s. They harken back to a simpler time when “bailout” indicated the action required after the puddle you’d driven through proved to be too deep, not the word of the year.
The top ten words of 2008 paint a portrait of (ahem) change. Or at least turmoil (confusion?):
1. bailout
2. vet
3. socialism
4. maverick
5. bipartisan
6. trepidation
7. precipice
8. rogue
9. misogyny
10. turmoil
With a list like that, it’s pretty clear we live in interesting times. Who laid the curse down?
